Training in The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Level I catechist formation is for adults seeking to serve children who are three to six years old. The completion time for this course ranges from 90-120 hours. This is the foundational training for all succeeding levels of catechist formation. All the key themes and presentations that are essential to this method of catechesis are introduced at this level. Attendees will complete training with an in-depth understanding of a 3-6 year old child’s developmental needs and religious capacities. Level I is a prerequisite formation for those seeking to work with children in Level II (6-9) and Level III (9-12).
Courses in The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd are led by formation leaders who are recognized leaders through the United States Association of The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. These formation leaders have not only completed all three levels of catechist formation in The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, they have personally written an album for the level they will lead, had it reviewed by another formation leader, served on courses in which they have received mentoring by another more experienced formation leader, and they have entered a formal process of discernment and review for recognition as a formation leader.

The two-week model of training is considered an intensive course, meaning it is a full-week commitment. Sunday we will meet 1-4pm. If you will be in need of childcare, please let us know in the registration form. We will do our very best to accommodate families with children.
There is a high demand for catechist training and this is the first training being offered in West Virginia in over a decade! Please do not delay registering for this course ESPECIALLY if you are a parishioner at St. Pat’s!
